Dortmund/Satteins – Above the field, where goals are usually cheered and victories celebrated, solar energy is now delivering true top performance: As part of the project to install the world’s largest photovoltaic system on a stadium roof, AEROCOMPACT, in collaboration with RheinlandSolar, supported the conversion of the PV system.
The facts are impressive—and not just for tech enthusiasts:
- 11,132 PV modules
- 5.009 MWp capacity
- Installation height: 40 meters
- System solution: COMPACTMETAL TL38 – as a custom design

Teamwork Above the Playing Field
It was clear from the very first glance at the roof: This project demanded top performance.
High wind loads, minimal module spacing, and installation at a height of 40 meters left no room for standard solutions.
Together with RheinlandSolar, we developed a custom-engineered substructure based on our COMPACTMETAL TL38 system—and implemented it at one of Europe’s most iconic stadiums.
The result: top-tier solar performance that stands out even among the competition.
The system behind it: COMPACTMETAL TL
The photovoltaic system is based on the COMPACTMETAL TL system—a solution for simple and secure PV installation on trapezoidal sheet metal roofs.
The unique feature: The trapezoidal bridges are fastened directly over two high ribs without cutting or pre-drilling. Module clamps can be easily snapped into place—for fast, safe, and efficient installations, even under challenging conditions.
Why the system is particularly well-suited for large-scale projects like this one:
- Few components, fast installation
- High load-bearing capacity despite minimal material usage
- Modular adaptability & custom solutions
- Suitable for all framed PV modules
- Minimal impact on the roof structure

Sunny Times at the Stadium
A stadium like SIGNAL IDUNA PARK stands for emotion, energy, and tremendous charisma—not just in the Bundesliga.
“We’re proud to have been part of this special project—on a roof that’s making soccer history,” says Bernd Wiedmaier, Sales Manager for Germany.
The fact that record amounts of solar energy are now being generated here demonstrates how modern technology and sustainability go hand in hand.
